Student Leadership

"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." - John F. Kennedy

Philosophy of Leadership

Leadership is about listening and responding.

Leadership is service.

Leadership requires patience and empathy.

Leadership is about setting goals for the present and future.

Leadership is a privilege, not a right.

Leadership requires self discipline before disciplining others.

A leader never asks someone else to do something that they wouldn't do themselves.

If a leader desires respect from others, they must give respect first.

Leaders make decisions that benefit everyone in the community, not just themselves and their own self-interests.

If a leader can inspire others through their actions and words, then they are doing a great job.

Leaders need help sometimes, and will ask for it when needed. They do not act alone.

Expectations for Student Leadership

The following expectations are required of ALL students involved in student leadership, regardless of the position:

- Students in student leadership are expected to be role models for the other students within the band program by attending all band events including, but not limited to, fundraising events, rehearsals, performances, and activities involving the program.

- Students in student leadership are put in their individual positions to help the program succeed in their efforts and goals. It is expected that each student in their individual student leadership goals will perform their duties to the best of their ability.

- Students in student leadership are expected to work together in their sections and as a leadership team in order to create an effective learning community within the music program.
